~ Annual Keur Inspections ~

The North American Annual Keur Inspections take place annually in late summer, usually in September.  It is a time of year we all look forward to, to gather in the presence of some of the finest animals, and admire the grace and beauty of all the horses that participate, while we continue to learn more about what makes our Friesian Horse so special.  For those of you who are unfamiliar with the Keur, it is the presentation of our FPS registered horses to a FPS approved judge from the Netherlands and is accompanied by two to four other inspectors of varying qualifications and residencies.  Upon inspection, the Friesian Horses are rated and their results are recorded on their lifetime pedigree paper.  The rating is designed to convey the quality of your horse, as seen by the inspectors, on the day of inspections.  While there is much to be said about the inspections, please click on the following link for Frequently Asked Questions - courtesy of FHANA.  An event you'll want to be a part of, we hope to see you at the next annual inspection coming late this summer, as participant or admirer.

October 23, 2010 ~

The 2010 North East Regional Keur Inspections took place October 11, 2010.  These inspections were held at the Ten Broeck Farm, Pepperell, Massachusetts.

This new venue was well received by over 200 spectators who enjoyed watching these magnificent horses.  The judges were presented 33 horses for inspection for predicates and IBOPs combined.  This keur produced 1 1st premie 6 2nd premie colt and fillies, 10 Ster mares and geldings and 3 Ster stallions, with one stallion, Ruben, being considered for stallion approval!  The day was a nice fall day, adding to the ambiance of the new location.  There were market vendors (Equixotics, Dark Chocolate and Roses, DragonFly Designs and Sandra B. Designs) alongside a table full of silent auction items donated by so many wonderful folks, a yard sale and scrumptions food offered by Fat Boys Concessions.  It was a great day for all. 

Several notable thanks go out to the following:

Cathy Zine:  Providing a day in Boston and transport for runners to farm/hotel and donating her day to be the Keur scribe.

Mark Loulakis (BDR Airport Services):  Providing professional limo service for Judges and 1 runner from hotel to farm/hotel.

Randy Brandt of P3Management Farrier Services:  For donating his day to be on site for emergent farrier care.

Michelle Loulakis:  For organizing silent auction and backup Keur management.

Pam Clapp and family:  For organizing stall placement, vendors and yard sale activities helping with order of go.

Susan Porter:  Donating her day as the official Keur announcer and singing "Friesians are a Girls Best Friend".

For all the above volunteers and to so many more people behind the scenes including Phil and Orintha of Ten Broeck Farm, we wish to thank you all for your time and effort to help make our Northeast Friesians Shine.

2010 Friesian Keuring Inspections October 11, 2010 coming to...

Orintha and Phil Silva have graciously opened their Ten Broeck Farm facility to NEFHC to host the 2010 Annual Keur.  Their facility offers a wonderful standard size indoor (260x85), ajoining a standard size outdoor arena and a high quality, multi channeled sound system for grounds and event announcements and is centrally located to our membership.

  They have worked tirelessly over the past 5 years to make their facility comfortable for horse and human alike and welcome  'quiet and well behaved leashed' dogs.  While the barns are reserved for their resident horses, temporary stabling will be brought on site for this event, rented from ShowTime Stable Rentals, of the St. Cyr family.  There are no camper hookups, however self contained campers are welcome.  Overnight accommodations near the northern neighboring town of Hollis, NH and the city of Nashua, NH area, can be found within a 15-20 minute drive and you'll find the October fall drive through the country side during this time of year an added treat.  They have hosted many overnight dressage clinics/seminars featuring world renown dressage trainer Frenk Jespers of Holland, US Olympic Dressage rider/trainer Pam Goodrich, NEDA events accommodating over 80+ horses and breed shows throughout the years, they fully understand the needs of the equestrian.  They invite you to attend any event they have listed on their website www.tenbroeckfarm.net. 

Understanding that our Keur date was designated to NEFHC during the "full on" fall show, fair season and Columbus Day holiday, we are very fortunate to have this facility at our disposal.  The planning of this event is underway and many volunteers for this event will be needed.  Please join us in helping a fun group of volunteers put this great event together.  Interests can be e:mailed to Cathy Zine at zinezoo@aol.com and Sandra Ierardi at sierardi@yahoo.com.  We are looking forward to a great day with the best horses around.
