Christmas came early for some of our members.  The Annual Year End Awards Banquet for New Hampshire Horse and Trail (11/27/2010) saw many of our Friesians taking home the awards.  A true testament to our beautiful New England Friesians.  Wow.  Job well done.

The NEFHC and FHANA at the 2010 Equine Affaire.

The Equine Affaire was a great success.  We saw so many new and familiar faces during this 4 day event at our NEFHC/FHANA booth who just enjoyed hearing so much about what the breed is all about and what our club is up to...The Breed Demo was a hit!  We had 12 fantastic horses to show their versatility, grace and elegance via a breed demo spotlight in the large coliseum.  This year's Equine Affaire was heavily attended and our breed demo was the best attended throughout the entire show.  We were very happy to have partnered with FHANA to make this a terrific information dissemination of our Friesian Horse to the mass public.

A very rare event took place Saturday, November 6, 2010.  Gerlof 294, the oldest living approved stallion in the world, welcomed Lolke 371 Sport to his Pinnacle Farm stable in Cornwall, Ct. where Lolke reunited with his mother Zwaantje F. who also resides at the stable with Gerlof 294.

Below you will see 26 year old Gerlof 294 being ridden for the first time in nearly 10 years.  A gracious and happy fellow, he demonstrates his Spanish Walk under the direction of Julio Mendoza.  He never forgot!  With grace and beauty and dignity, this well cared for and very fit gentleman performed like he was at a show.  Gerlof 294 stays in shape by going out for carriage drives with stallion manager Jackie several times a week.

  A very touching moment for everyone to witness, Zwaantje F. was clearly very proud of her son's accomplishments.  Both very curious of each other, you could imagine that they truely remembered one another.

A special thank you to John Howard and Gloria Bowman, owners of Lolke 371 Sport, and to Dianne Dominguez owner of Gerlof 294 and stallion manager Jackie at Pinnacle Farm for allowing this event to take place.  Both stallion owners having a long history in the Friesian horse community, together they shared two very special stallions with the world on Saturday.

Ashton Clapp is graduating from Cazenovia College this spring.  As part of her graduation requirement, she is doing an extensive research paper on Friesian Horses, the European Union and the Dutch and German registries.  Having been raised with Friesians, the current issues within the breed are very important to her.  Please help Ashton with her research by filling out her survey via the link below.  Good luck Ashton.  We look forward to the final results of your survey.

Congratulations!!! to Megan Meyers and her newly purchased Friesian, Sake.

Megan and Sake have had a wonderful year.  Together they have been enjoying the winners circle at the shows and they can be seen riding dressage below.  Megan and Sake's hard work has paid off at the Keuring where Sake proudly received his 2nd premium Ster rating.  Sake also bares the coveted title of Keur Champion of Geldings, making Megan a very happy and proud owner.  We wish them the best for their bright future together.

The NEFHC wishes to extend our deepest sympathies to Robert and Laurie LaBrie for the passing of their beloved driving horse, Alfons V.  A life shortened due to a brief illness, Alfons, 10 years old, was comforted by Bob by his side during his final hours.  We will all miss this wonderful horse and we thank Bob and Laurie for sharing his magnificence with us through the years, at the shows, driving performances, on a sleigh ride, charity driving venues, weddings and around his farm.

Fhana/FPS has accepted one of our Keur Stallions to the 70 day test.

Ruben van Erve Poortstad (Aan 416 x Fabe 348) owned by Janet Spina of Bedford Corners, NY

This 5 year old stallion was presented to NEFHC Fhana Keuring by Stallion manager/trainer Trish Helmer of Pawling NY.  Trish was instrumental in importing this stallion for current owner/client Janet Spina of Bedford Corners, NY in 2009.  Trish went to the stallion testing in Holland in spring 2009 and found this stallion.  Trish says "Ruben was the 4th best stallion that year, but only 3 stallions were approved".  We are happy to hear he gets a second chance.  We'll be follwing his progress.  Best of Luck.

NEWS High-lights from our members. 

Andy Grovo and his mom Cindy Flaherty have been enjoying their Friesians this fall.  Andy has been riding Henry on the trails and Cindy has been riding Rien.  Other adventures include riding on the beach!  The Deerfield Fair horse show was also very exciting for them, as Rien won the open pleasure driving championship on Sunday.  Congratulations!!!  With all this great fall weather, they continue to ride and Andy prepares for his riding debut with Henry(pictured below) at the Octoberfest horse show in West Springfield, Ma.  We look forward to hearing more about your successes.

Brandon Marvelle and his 7 year old Friesian, Jort, have been enjoying their summer at the shows.  The Friesian Classic are but a few of their many accomplishments this summer.  Pictured below is Brandon presenting Jort in-hand and bringing him to a 1st. place win in the Jr. Exhibitor In-hand, while enjoying a victory pass.  They also earned a Reserve Champion position in their walk/trot 11-17 class.  Overall, this dynamic team received high point at that show!  Congratulations!!!.

October 22, 2010 ~

The NEFHC proudly hosted the FHANA/FPS Friesian Keuring in Pepperell, Ma and ended with the judges and runners remarking we had the largest group of finest horses in all the East Circuit.  The homey, comfortable and welcoming setting of this Keuring was also acknowledged by the judges, complementing the graceful display of these Friesians.  This Keuring ultimately produced the most Sters in the circuit.  We should all be proud of our Northeast Friesians.  Take a look at the final results and pictures below:

Jenny Wells of Seacoast Farm says of her client Barbara's first ever marathon event in August, "Barbara Chadwick just placed 2nd at her very first HDT. First time ever doing marathon too! She did Awesome! And so did her horse, as that was the first "official" time he'd ever done a marathon."  Great team work.

Ready, Set, One Week To Go!!

Entry forms are coming in daily.  Show begins on Friday, July 23rd.  Let's have some fun.

We will have many vendors on site for your shopping convenience.  Think Christmas in July!  Get your shopping done early.

Costume classes are always a favorite, looking forward to all the new and inventive creations for 2010.

Remco and Adam Cropper along with Lolke 371 Sport and Kelly McGinn are ready to bring some fantastic dressage to feast your eyes.

Adam Cropper www.adamcropperdressage.com has first handedly trained Remco, Owned by Jane Mulvey-Raulerson, thru the ranks to Grand Prix.  This team has been a long time favorite for our Saturday Night program and we are honored to have them return for a very special performance for our 2010 Classic.

Kelly McGinn, www.kellymcginn.com a FEI Dressage rider, trainer and coach who has earned her United States Dressage Federation Bronze and Silver Medals has been chosen to ride Lolke 371 Sport in the World Equestrian Games(WEG) Friesian Train.  She and Lolke 371 Sport have a special routine planned for several demonstrations throughout the whole show weekend.

The online breeding auctions were a tremendous success for the NEFHC!  Bringing in over $2,500, we are very thankful to the support of our breeding donors who made it all possible.  A great big thank you to the Nanning 374 owners and NEFHC associate member Scott and Shelly Kelnhofer of Fenway Farms and Lolke 371 Sport owners John Howard of Escape Farm and co-owner Gloria Bowman of Belle Chevel Farm.  Since the untimely passing of Nanning 374, Scott and Shelly continue to live their Friesian dreams through their beloved Anton 343 Sport.

Barbara and Tsjalling have been having an awesome year so far. 

Barbara Chadwick of her 12 year old gelding Tsjalling writes:

"Tsjalling at GMHA, photo by Heidi Johnson, Driving Combined Test & Arena Driving Trial, 5/15 & 16. We also participated in the Lisa Singer clinic 5/14. Tsjalling is a 12 y.o., ster gelding. We placed 1st in our Training Level Test #2, under judge Billie Hill."

Nanning 374 unexpectedly passed away today, June 15, with Scott and Shelley by his side.

The Friesian community mourns the loss of this magnificent and noble horse. 

Our deepest sympathies go out to Scott and Shelley Kelnhofer of Fenway Farms.

The annual Keur location has been confirmed.

  We will be hosting this years Keuring event at

Ten Broeck Farm, Pepperell, Massachusetts.

The inspections will take place on Monday, October 11, 2010.

Move in date will be Sunday afternoon; details will be forthcoming as information becomes available.  Please check back often and/or visit the Annual Keur Inspections link on the menu.

Understanding Your Horse's Weight

 This book "is a practical guide to maintaining your horse’s optimum weight and body condition".

  Chloe also made a photo appearance in the February, 2010 issue of Equus Magazine, page 52.
